My watercolour and mixed media paintings are inspired by the natural and man-made landscapes of the North East of England where I live, and locations I have visited and documented on my travels in Britain, France and Italy.

Jeff Smith
From South Shields, Tyne and Wear, England
As a young child I could occupy myself quietly for hours with only a pencil and paper. That has never changed.....
I studied at South Shields Grammar School for Boys, trained to be a teacher at Eaton Hall College of Education and taught Art and Photography at St Joseph's RC Academy in Hebburn, until I retired in 2015.
I prefer to work in watercolour and mixed media on paper and enjoy painting the natural and man-made landscapes of my native North East England, and locations I have visited and documented on my travels in Britain, Italy and France.
My artwork reflects my great interest in historic places, buildings, art and artefacts and my appreciation of the people from the past who helped to shape them.
I have long admired and been influenced by the work of a broad range of artists, including the landscapes of John Constable, the pictures of mining community life by Spennymoor artist Norman Cornish, the mixed media techniques of Moira Huntly, and the fantasy illustrations of artists such as Alan Lee and John Howe..

Two of my paintings of Bamburgh are now in their new home in Denver, Colorado, USA.
I am continuing to sell paintings, prints and cards of my work in Elements Rothbury, and have sold a number of paintings and prints of local views here in South Tyneside.
